About UIG
The University of Alberta Improv Group (aka The Notorious UIG) will be entering its fourteenth season this September. We provide an opportunity for students and members of the community to learn and perform improv at the University, around the City of Edmonton, and beyond.
The UIG has become notorious for our commitment to using improv as a tool for social outreach. Our club teaches workshops with schools, daycares, businesses, and summer camps that focus on applying the skills of improv to everyday life, through the tools of cooperation, conflict resolution, creativity and confidence. We work with other Student Groups, teaching the applicability of improv skills to whatever endeavour they commit to. Improv is more than just comedy, it teaches crucial skills that inspire the leaders of the future. This philosophy has made The UIG notorious.
The UIG has also entertained audiences all over Central Alberta. We are open to a variety of opportunities such as performing shows at birthday parties, anniversaries, festivals, or comedy nights. We have even ventured into starring in commercials, playing pranks on your loved ones, helping coordinate marriage proposals, and more. We participate in improv festivals hosted by universities all over Canada and the USA, as well as hosting our own international festival to bring the improv community closer. Contact us via email through [email protected] to hire our group for workshops, shows, or whatever else you have in mind.
As a student group, we meet twice a week from September through April where we do improv workshops and open jams. Memberships started going on sale this September, and we encourage members to continue joining throughout the year! Reach out to us via [email protected] if you have further questions.
